Senior Sewer Rebates

  • The City of Chicago provides a $50 annual refund to seniors on their sewer bills. To be eligible for a Senior Sewer Rebate, you must meet the following criteria:

  •

  • You must be 65 years of age or older as of January 1 of the year you are applying.

  • You must be the sole owner, owner in joint tenancy, or tenancy in common of the property.

  • You must occupy the property as your principal place of residence.

  • You must own a townhouse, condominium unit, or cooperative apartment that shares a common water bill.

  •

  • This program was previously managed by the City Council Committee on Finance, but due to changes recently approved by Mayor Lori Lightfoot, the program will be operated by the Department of Finance beginning in 2020. This change means that the 18th Ward office will no longer be involved in filing paperwork for your annual $50 rebate.

  •

  • Moving forward, eligible applicants should mail their claim forms and supporting documentation to:

  •

  • City of Chicago, Department of Finance

  • Utility Billing & Customer Service

  • P.O. Box 6330

  • Chicago, Illinois 60680-6330

  •

  • Or email: utilitybill@cityofchicago.org

  •

  • Prior applicants will receive paperwork to re-file for their refund in February. If you are a first-time applicant, you may download an application online.

  •

  • Tax Preparation Services from the City of Chicago

  • This year, eligible Chicagoans could receive up to $7,589 from the federal and state Earned Income Tax Credits alone, depending on certain qualifications, in addition to other credits.  But many people may not claim all the credits they deserve without the help of knowledgeable preparers.

  •

  • Families earning up to $55,000 and individuals earning up to $30,000 are eligible to take advantage of the free and confidential Tax Prep assistance at 17 sites across Chicago.  Volunteer tax preparers certified through IRS-approved training will assist them with federal and state income tax returns.  Most sites will be open between early-February and mid-April 2019.  (Please refer to the attached fliers and links below for specific information on site locations and hours.)
